JD Forrest

FOUNDER & HEAD COACH

JD is proud to offer hockey development opportunities throughout Central New York through “Standard 200 Hockey”. An Auburn, NY native with elite international experience, JD is grateful to be back in his hometown with his family and committed to sharing top-level hockey expertise with athletes across the region.

A product of the USA Hockey National Team Development Program (USNTDP), JD was a three-year member and team captain, finishing his NTDP career as the all-time leader in games played and ranking second all-time in points and assists by a defenseman in program history. His international experience includes representing the United States at the 2001 World Junior Championship, multiple World Championships, and the Deutschland Cup.

JD went on to a decorated collegiate career at Boston College, where he was a National Champion in 2001, Frozen Four Champion, Hockey East Champion, and multi-time award recipient. He earned All-American, All-Hockey East, and conference honors while serving as an assistant captain and helping lead BC to sustained national success.

Drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2000 NHL Draft, JD enjoyed a lengthy professional career across North America and Europe, competing in the AHL, and top international leagues including Liiga (Finland), NLA (Switzerland), DEL (Germany), and Alsvenskan (Sweden). He played for historic organizations such as Jokerit Helsinki, Kloten Flyers, Oulun Kärpät, and the Augsburg Panther, gaining invaluable insight into multiple playing styles and development systems worldwide.

Transitioning into coaching, JD has built an equally impressive résumé behind the bench over the last 12 seasons. He has served as Head Coach and Assistant Coach at the AHL level, currently an Assistant Coach with the Syracuse Crunch, and previously a Head and Assistant Coach with the Wilkes Barre Scranton Penguins. While working with the Penguins organization he had the opportunity to help lead the Penguins Black Aces through the 2017 Stanley Cup win. Internationally, he has coached multiple Team USA squads, including serving as Head Coach at the 2022 Hlinka Memorial Cup and Assistant Coach with the 2015 Gold Medal winning Youth Olympic team as well as several USA Hockey Select Festivals.

JD’s training philosophy blends championship standards, modern skill development, and genuine love for the game, helping players build confidence, compete at a high level, and enjoy the process of becoming better hockey players on and off the ice.
